Bourgogne, The Winemakers’ Cut: The exciting new trade event for 2024
5 tastings around the world explaining what goes on behind the scenes in Bourgogne. An original way to get in touch with producers and taste the new vintage.
With the arrival of two very fine vintages in 2022 and 2023, Bourgogne's winegrowers and négociants will be returning to the international market in 2024 with generous volumes.
In 2024, the Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB) is organising five tastings on the theme "Bourgogne, The Winemakers’ Cut”. It’s a unique opportunity for those in the wine business all over the world (importers, wine merchants, agents, sommeliers, journalists etc) to meet with Domaines, Maisons and Co-op from all over Bourgogne!
Joined by foreign importers, these events will reaffirm the international and dynamic image of Bourgogne wines. They will take place in:
London, United Kingdom on January 10 (as part of Bourgogne Week)
Hong Kong, on April 16
Tokyo, Japan, on April 18
Stockholm, Sweden, on May 21
Oslo, Norway, on May 23
The theme for this year's tastings - The Winemakers’ Cut - plays on the parallel between the making of a film and the making of a wine, revealing the hidden aspects and reality of the daily lives of winegrowers and négociants. These tastings, reserved exclusively for wine professionals, will showcase the unexpected treasures of Bourgogne, with a large selection of wines which represent good value for money for consumers across international markets.
“Bourgogne, The Winemakers’ Cut” in figures:
- 2 continents - 5 countries
- 104 exhibitors from Bourgogne
- 56 importers
- 5 regions of Bourgogne
- 480 wines to taste, among which 160 unexpected discoveries
fter long months of ageing in the cellars, the 2022 vintage, so eagerly awaited after the small volumes of 2021, is coming to the world stage. It will be presented during the many events of the Bourgogne Week in London in January.
The 2022 vintage is living up to all its promises. It is a very fine vintage, with wines that are seductive when they are young, but that will also age beautifully. Nevertheless, it is the fruit of an intense year weather-wise, with frost, heatwaves and drought.
Production volumes, saved by a slightly later budburst which protected the buds from frost, could well have been impacted by the four summer heatwaves and widespread lack of water. But in fact, the vines were able to draw on their own resources as well as those of the terroir, giving Bourgogne generous yields.
The final volumes of wines are nearly 1.75 million hectoliters (over 233 million bottles).
This connection between the vines and their environment has also brought a beautiful balance to the wines which, despite the very hot conditions of that year, have a great deal of subtlety, both on the nose and on the palate.
The characteristics of the 2022 vintage, for red and white wines are detailed in our updated press release.

The 2023 vintage in Bourgogne exceeds all expectations
Quality and quantity are the key words for the 2023 harvest! The cellars are filling up again bringing smiles in Bourgogne.
It's been some time since Bourgogne enjoyed two consecutive years with volumes above the five-year average. 2023, coming hot on the heels of 2022, has put a smile on the faces of winegrowers and négociants: the cellars are (almost) full again.
Bourgogne therefore faces a double challenge: successfully marketing these two consecutive vintages, while continuing to replenish its stocks in anticipation of increasingly frequent extreme weather conditions.
The other great thing about the 2023 vintage is the promise of great quality. Despite the summer's unstable weather, the final result is stunning.
The Chardonnay, Aligoté and Sauvignon grapes reached full maturity in perfect condition, while retaining enough freshness to live up to the reputation of Bourgogne white wines. And Pinot Noir proved, once again, that it is the king of grapes.
After a rigorous sorting process, facilitated by the high yields, some very fine juices were extracted, with a great variety of aromas.
The result is expressive, fruity wines with beautiful aromatic profiles, for both white and red. There's something for all tastes, as this vintage offers a range of profiles linked to the choice of harvest dates.

Bourgogne wines economic report updated: Stocks replenished at last!
Despite the generosity of the 2022 vintage, sales continue to be impacted by the lack of wine over the past five years.
The 2022-2023 trading campaign was very busy, thanks to the generous 2022 vintage. This made it possible to partially replenish stocks and/or fulfil orders awaiting availability from the previous campaign.
Marketing results for the current year are more subdued, following the strong trends of the last two years, while at the same time, an assortment of economic and geopolitical uncertainties is making markets more cautious.
- The 2022 harvest (around 1.75 million hectolitres, or just over 233 million bottles) has partially replenished stocks, even though average harvest over five years remains below 1.5 million hectolitres (around 190 million bottles).
- At the end of July 2023, on-property stocks remained well below the five-year average. These will soon be topped up by the very good 2023 harvest, estimated at 1.9 million hectolitres (or just over 253 million bottles). After several years of shortages, Bourgogne wine stocks will be full once again.
- Export sales continue to grow. After a good year in 2022, export volumes are down slightly, but remain higher than in the pre-Covid period (2019): an increase of 3.2% in terms of volume (first seven months of 2023 compared with the same period in 2019).
Laurent Delaunay, President of the Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB), gave an economic update at a press conference on November 19, at the Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction press conference.
Last November, 63 jury members awarded 57 medals at the Concours des vins du Grand Auxerrois.
The event’s patron was Cheffe Blanche Loiseau, daughter of former Chef Dominique Loiseau, and actual Cheffe of the brand-new restaurant Loiseau du Temps in Besançon.
Organised by the Confrérie des Chevaliers des Trois Ceps, the 31st edition of this competition featured a demanding selection of 263 samples from some 60 estates. More than a dozen Régionale and Village appellations, highlighting the 2021 and 2022 vintages, were tasted, celebrating the dedicated work of the producers.
Cheffe Blanche Loiseau, a byword for excellence, enriched the event with her culinary expertise and commitment to Bourgogne.
The Confrérie des Chevaliers des Trois Ceps has been promoting the wines of the Grand Auxerrois for more than 50 years and upholding the traditions associated with vines and wines. On behalf of the vineyard villages of Saint Bris, Chitry and Irancy, it is part of a wider approach, promoting and publicising the wines of the Grand Auxerrois and beyond.
The seventh Majors du Tastevinage ceremony took place on November 16 in the Grand Cellier of the Château du Clos de Vougeot, when the 13 Majors 2023 were revealed.
Rigorously selected from over 785 Bourgogne wines presented at the previous two annual Tastevinage sessions, and chosen unanimously by the jurors, only 13 wines were awarded the supreme distinction of MAJOR du TASTEVINAGE this year.
Some 13 different appellations were honoured, including one Crémant de Bourgogne.

The MAJOR concept was created to highlight the excellence of a wine that fully represents its appellation and vintage.
Aged under 40, or having created their estate in Bourgogne for fewer than five years - who are they?
The first event of the Hospices de Beaune wine auction weekend, the Jeunes Talents dinner in Beaune, saw the association award trophies to seven young winemakers who are aged under 40 or who have created their estate in the region for less than five years.
A jury of 60 wine professionals, together with this year's patrons, Marina Guiberti, Master wine merchant, sommelier and manager of the two DIVVINO stores in Paris, and Olivier Poels, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the French wine magazine La RVF, judged the participating estates by blind-tasting three different appellations of each candidate in the 2021 vintage.
Founded in 1959, the GJPV (Groupe des Jeunes Professionnels de la Vigne) is an association of young winegrowers whose aim is to create professional links and publicise the best talents now and in the future. It has some 150 members throughout the greater Bourgogne region.
Bourgogne vs. Burgundy: to re-affirm their identity, the region and the producers are reverting back to the original French iteration of the name, Bourgogne.
