Puligny-Montrachet
This kingdom of white wines will be hosting the Saint-Vincent Tournante in 2021.
In 2021, the Bourgogne region’s most famous wine festival will honor three appellations, including Puligny-Montrachet, so this is the perfect occasion to treat yourself to a little revision session.
A terroir conducive to Chardonnay
Located right beside some Grand Cru appellations, this AOC, created in 1937, offers a white wine with an assertive personality and noble reputation. The Pinot Noir grape has found a little favorable terroir here which produces an excellent red, although only 0.75 hectares are grown, making it a real hidden gem.
Sommelier's tip
The white wines of this appellation are a dazzling gold color with hints of green, intensifying with age. On the nose, aromas include ripe grapes, marzipan, hazelnut, amber, lemongrass, and green apple. Lactic hints of butter and hot croissant along with mineral, flinty notes, are also common, along with honey. The body and aromas in this wine melt into a subtle harmony.
On the table, this wine’s great aromatic complexity requires pairing with delicate and rich dishes. Serve it with a delicious poultry in sauce or veal fried with mushrooms. For more exceptional moments, the Puligny-Montrachet appellation is wonderful with foie gras, lobster, and crayfish, while grilled or pan-fried sea fish make a fine match for its great distinction.
If you are an importer, a wholesaler and e-commerce buyer, You will be interested in the series of exclusive Masterclasses that we will be organized between July and November in Seattle, New York, Boston, Dallas and Chicago.
The aim of these classes is to introduce participants to another range of Bourgogne wines that are perfectly in line with consumer expectations and which offer excellent value for money. So keep an eye on future issues of this newsletter or email ophelie.dijon@sopexa.com
The US market is the leading market in terms of both revenue and volume for Bourgogne wines, having grown steadily since 2014. However, uncertainty regarding potential levies has somewhat disrupted the landscape since the beginning of 2020. The range of wines that we will propose during the Masterclasses could be a good opportunity to keep on tracks.
