Laurent Delaunay took over from François Labet as President of the BIVB at the general meeting of the Bourgogne Wine Board on December 15.
Laurent Delaunay paid tribute to his predecessors, Pierre-Henry Gagey, Frédéric Drouhin and Louis-Fabrice Latour, emphasising their influence on his own commitment to the industry. This was followed by a minute's silence in memory of Pau Roca, Director of the OIV (the International Organisation of Vine and Wine) who died recently. Laurent Delaunay paid tribute to the important role Mr Roca played in setting up the OIV headquarters in Dijon and in helping to organise its congress which takes place in October 2024. This event will be an opportunity to mark the centenary of this international institution.
The President spoke of his new role and priorities, highlighting the "Objectif Climat" plan at the heart of his strategy. He emphasised the need to involve all those working in the industry in achieving this carbon neutral objective, proposing platforms for discussion and conferences in the vineyards to promote ecological transition.
On the economic front, he called for the modernisation of the industry, notably through contractual practices and economic regulation of supply. He is calling for collective thinking on ways to better manage fluctuations in production.
In terms of communication, the Chairman would like to improve the distribution of economic and technical information. Finally, he stressed the importance of promoting the appellations internationally, encouraging the implementation of simple, responsive procedures.
The BIVB is committed to a future focused on the environment, economic modernisation, improved communication and vigorous promotion of Bourgogne's appellations on a global scale. An exciting new chapter is beginning for the Bourgogne wine industry!
As the New Year dawns, the Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB) extends its warmest wishes to you!
Bourgogne nowadays could be thought of as an open-air wine laboratory where our winegrowers and merchants are adapting to change: they are demonstrating their versatility, using Bourgognes's flagship grape varieties and the diversity of its terroirs. In 2024, they will be breaking new ground to produce unique wines, imbued with authenticity and character.
We'd like to thank you for your commitment to spreading the word about Bourgogne wines, and wish you every success in sharing your passion with your teams, customers and partners.
We're organising four training sessions in Vancouver (British Columbia) on March 25, Calgary (Alberta) on March 26, Toronto (Ontario) on April 8 and Montreal (Quebec) on April 9.
Each training session will be led by an official Bourgogne wine Ambassador to provide participants with pro-active, professional training. Through a tasting of a selection of eight Bourgogne wines, you’ll learn about Bourgogne and Mâcon wines with geographical denominations and lesser-known Village AOCs.
In the week following the course, participants will be invited to take part in a Bourgogne wine competition, with prizes worth ,000 to be won.
These workshops are for wine professionals only, and places are limited. Registration will open shortly.

The Bourgogne wine map gets a new feature
Bourgogne Maps adds a practical new feature: search by Climat and Lieux-dits.
Bourgogne Maps is a free online mapping tool that allows you to find maps of all 84 Bourgogne appellations.
You can search in different ways: by village, by appellation or by appellation level.
The tool has several functions which allow you to:
- Print an appellation map,
- View and identify the Climats and localities of an AOC, from Régionale appellations to Grands Crus,
- Find a list of the Domaines and Maisons in a given area,
- Find out about wine festivals and events scheduled throughout the year.
New feature: this year, you'll be able to search by Climat or locality name for each village listed.
You can also combine "search by commune" and "search by Climat/lieux-dits". Once you've chosen your commune, the tool will automatically suggest a list of Climats and lieux-dits in the village.
You can use these maps to:
- Illustrate your communication materials (leaflets, brochures, powerpoint, etc.)
- Illustrate your website
- Illustrate your guided tastings
- Decorate your tasting rooms
These materials can be used "royalty-free" with all your communication media (excluding publishing).

Bourgogne wines hold up well on the UK market despite the crisis
In 2023, the UK held on to its position as the second largest market for Bourgogne wines in terms of volume and value.
Exports to the UK totalled 9.6 million bottles in 2023, generating €173.7 million. White wines accounted for 76% of exports, followed by red/rosé wines at 18%, and Crémant de Bourgogne at 6%.
Bourgogne wines continue to increase in value, despite a slight drop in volume. This is the fifth consecutive year of sales growth in the UK, driven by a gradual return to the market after the historically low harvest of 2021.
White wines dominated exports, accounting for 76% of volume. The AOCs of Chablis, Mâcon and Bourgogne are the main contributors to this growth, with a significant increase in sales.
Red wines posted solid growth, exceeding €81 million in sales. AOC Mâcon, AOC Villages and Villages Premiers Crus from the Côte de Nuits, as well as AOCGrands Crus from the Côte d'Or all reported growth in volume and value.
Despite the persistent economic difficulties in the UK, Bourgogne wines continue to successfully conquer the market.
Find out more about this fascinating trend and details of the various appellations in the press room.
