The 2023 Bourgogne wine harvest: sunshine and grapes!
The secateurs have been packed away and the cellar doors have closed after a harvest that began in the scorching heat at the end of August and ended more comfortably, with milder temperatures at the end of the summer.
To everyone’s delight, the harvest was a good one, both in terms of quality and quantity, particularly for the Chardonnay. The Pinot Noir grapes were not to be outdone: large volumes meant they could be sorted for quality, allowing us to keep the best of a bumper year.
(…)
Although affected by a lack of water, which has persisted since the 2022 vintage, the 2023 harvest is shaping up to be a generous one: stormy showers came at just the right time throughout the summer. The sunshine concentrated the sugar in the grape berries and enriched them with flavour and colour.
For some time now, we’ve been talking about the appellations which represent excellent value for money. Bourgogne Coulanges-la-Vineuse, one of the 13 geographical denominations of the Bourgogne appellation, is among them!
Officially recognised since 1990, Bourgogne Coulanges-la-Vineuse comes from the north of Bourgogne, a few kilometres south of Auxerre, on the left bank of the Yonne river.
Its vineyard basks in a favourable microclimate thanks to its south and south-east exposure. The subsoils are made of Kimmeridgian limestone, clay and marl.
The appellation can be produced in three colours: red, white and rosé.
At the table!
The finesse of the tannin and the luscious fruitiness of the red wines make them the perfect accompaniment to a variety of tomato-based pasta dishes, sautéed vegetables, grilled white meat with herbs or fillet of beef roasted with vegetables.
Wines selected from the best Climats and which benefit from ageing go well with duck breast in black cherry sauce, shoulder of lamb with a Parmesan crust or beef bourguignon. They can also be drunk with creamy, fruity cheeses such as Brie, Chaource, Reblochon, Salers or Saint-Nectaire.
The supple white wines, with particular aromatic roundness, are perfect for an aperitif or with tapas, French cheese puffs, grilled shellfish, baked fish, turkey escalope with cream sauce, blanquette de veau, baked sea bream and mushroom risotto.
They can also accompany cheeses such as a chèvre cendré, Comté, Beaufort or mountain tomme.

Economic report on Bourgogne wines
A mixed start to 2023 for Bourgogne wines on the export markets.
The 2022-2023 campaign, which has just ended, marked a definite return to normal. The abundant 2022 vintage made it possible to partially replenish stocks and/or meet back orders waiting for stocks to become available.
The marketing results for the current year need to be seen in the context of big changes in the last two years, when many economic and geopolitical uncertainties were making the markets more cautious
The 2022 harvest (around 1.75 million hectolitres, or just over 233 million bottles) has partially replenished stocks, even though the average harvest over five years remains below 1.5 million hectolitres (around 190 million bottles).
As a result, at the end of July 2023, stocks at the estates remained well below the five-year average.
In this context, export sales continue to grow. Export volumes are down slightly, after a good year in 2022, but remain higher than in the pre-Covid period (2019): An increase of 5.3% in terms of volume (the first six months of 2023 compared with the first six months of 2019).
Today we're sharing the appellation's brand new promotional video, which the producers are proud to present after a year in the making!
You can follow the work in the vineyard - season by season over the course of a year - also the cellar, the landscapes and the wine’s heritage... culminating in the tasting.
Fast-paced, evocative and stirring, this video reflects the daring DNA of the Viré-Clessé appellation.
Co-funded by the BIVB, the video can be found on their website and social media (Facebook and Instagram).
Bourgogne vs. Burgundy: to re-affirm their identity, the region and the producers are reverting back to the original French iteration of the name, Bourgogne.
