The 2022 vintage encapsulates what Bourgogne does best: Generosity and promise!
After three years of quality without quantity, with yields impacted by weather events, it is certainly welcome, taking some of the pressure off sales and allowing stocks to be built back up.
Despite some small disparities depending on the varietal, the vines stood up pretty well to some rather extreme weather and were able to take advantage of the slightest rainfall. As the wines begin the ageing process in cellars stacked up to three barrels high, winemakers and négociants are happy because the 2022 vintage is certain to seduce the palates of wine lovers around the world!
The weather this year was once again extreme, with frost, heatwaves, and drought. Budburst was later than in recent years, which helped protect the vines from April frost.
Then, it was the subtle balance between vine and terroir that we can thank for the fact that despite this year’s harvest being deprived of water and subjected to four separate heatwaves, it came through unscathed. This balance can be perceived in the musts which, by all accounts, have good degrees of potential alcohol. The wines are revealing quality, with nice concentration and fine balance. And it’s a surprising vintage because although the weather was very hot, the wines are vivacious and offer aromas of fresh fruit; the promise of good things to come.

The holiday season is approaching fast! It’s time to start thinking about which Crémant de Bourgogne you’d like to serve during convivial moments with friends and family.
The production of Crémant de Bourgogne continues to grow, thanks to its popularity amongst French and foreign consumers.
It was first produced in Chablis, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Rully, and Tonnerre in the early 19th century and has never lost its sparkle since then. Crémant de Bourgogne is a wine full of freshness with a very lively character.
The winemaker is the conductor of the cuvée, while the word “Crémant” indicates the sheet music and method to be followed, while “Bourgogne” affirms its origins and personality.
The winemaker’s mark is made on the label, for it is they who specify where the wine sits on the scale from extra brut to demi-sec. It also states the where the grapes were grown, along with the Grand Eminent label for those wines aged for a minimum of 39 months. The vintage is also included for those wines from a single year, and the words Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs, and so on, to clarify the grape varietal. Every piece of information is a chapter in a story, an element in a sensation, and a key part of a great Bourgogne wine simply crying out to be discovered.
Crémant de Bourgogne wines are mainly produced with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, but they can also contain other varietals such as Gamay and Aligoté. The appellation is available in:
- Blanc, with citrus, floral, or mineral aromas. It offers vigor and elegance in the mouth with a touch of acidity that ensures a balance between aromatic power and a certain sought-after lightness.
- Blanc de Blancs, with notes of white blossom, citrus, and green apple. Over time, its aromas evolve into touches of stone fruit like apricot and peach, with a hint of toasted bread.
- Blanc de Noirs, which reveals aromas of red berries, cherry, blackcurrant, and raspberry. This is a wine that is powerful in the mouth, with length and persistence. Time brings charm and warmth with nutty and sometimes honeyed notes with suggestions of spice and nutmeg.
- Rosé is made using Pinot Noir grapes and sometimes Gamay. It is golden pink in color for a delicate wine with subtle aromas of red berries.
Sommelier’s tips:
The Crémant de Bourgogne appellation is typically served as an aperitif, but it also makes a great accompaniment for a meal. White Crémant go well with starters such as poultry confit with pears and dried fruits, and also with cheese. A Blanc de Blancs would pair wonderfully with scallops or freshwater fish. Meanwhile, Crémant de Bourgogne Blanc de Noirs makes a great match for roast poultry and slow-cooked red meats. Its powerful aromas of blossom make it a top match with iced desserts like red fruit sorbet to bring a certain freshness to the end of a meal.
Serving temperature: 4-8°C for an aperitif or with dessert, and 6-9°C with a meal.

Our online médiathèque is home to Bourgogne Maps, an interactive atlas showing all the different production zones across the vineyard.
Bourgogne Maps was launched in April 2020 and offers a unique and powerful free digital atlas that you can use to explore the vineyard.
It’s a simple tool to use and to share, and it helps users understand and situate the different appellations of Bourgogne and their Climats. It also includes information about estates and wine houses in each sector, along with upcoming events and special occasions.
In the médiathèque, you can also download a wide range of documents with just a click of a mouse.

The Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB) is offering a range of training courses tailored to your needs and those of your sales teams.
These workshops, hosted by our Official Bourgogne Wine Trainers, offer your teams a focus on those Bourgogne wine appellations that you offer in your establishment.
These training sessions are free and are hosted at your establishment. They last for 45 minutes or longer, depending on the time constraints of your teams.

On 4 & 5 February 2023, the Saint-Vincent Tournante du Chablisien finally comes to Fleys
Come and discover the various vintages and appellations of the Chablis terroir.
After having been postponed no fewer than three times, the 52nd Saint-Vincent Tournante du Chablisien will run on 4 & 5 February 2023 in Fleys, a typically Burgundian hillside village.
The vines of Fleys cover some 335 hectares in a terroir where the Chardonnay grape reigns supreme. They produce a range of cuvées of Petit Chablis and Chablis, along with two Chablis Premier Crus, namely Les Fourneaux and Mont de Milieu.
The event will respect tradition, with a banquet and dance on the Saturday night, a mass and procession on Sunday, and on both days, plenty of tastings, stands selling local produce, and other forms of entertainment.
New this year, a special “Crus & Vintages” cellar will be offering tastings of a range of wines from local producers along with a selection of vintages and appellations from across the Chablis region (Paid tasting)
Bourgogne vs. Burgundy: to re-affirm their identity, the region and the producers are reverting back to the original French iteration of the name, Bourgogne.
