Bourgogne Road Trip – a new way to discover the vineyard
The Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB) has produced 13 short films for tourists featuring interviews with winegrowers and showcasing cultural and historical attractions to reveal another side of Bourgogne.
The BIVB created this web series to showcase the region’s 13 Geographical Denominations of the Bourgogne AOC. These are wines that are made from vines growing on specific plots, such as Bourgogne Côte Saint-Jacques, Bourgogne Côtes d’Auxerre, and Bourgogne Montrecul. These wines are produced from more limited areas whose specific characteristics are translated through the wine. This is a first step towards identifying a wine with its terroir, with the ultimate step being wines from specific Climats. The production conditions are also stricter, specifying lower yields, and higher natural sugar levels.
To help consumers understand this segment, the BIVB has been releasing a new episode from the series each Wednesday at 6pm France time across its social media, with the #RoadTripBourgogne hashtag. Each video is dedicated to one of these 13 geographical denominations of the Bourgogne appellation.

Aloxe-Corton
Some history
Aloxe-Corton (pronounced “Alosse-Corton”) is a Village appellation on the Côte de Beaune that was created in 1938. It enjoys a wonderful location on the Corton hill alongside Ladoix-Serrigny and Pernand-Vergelesses.
The Aloxe-Corton AOC has both red and white wines. Red wine is produced across almost 120 hectares while white wine over just two.
Sommelier's tips
Red Aloxe-Corton wines are a rather dark ruby or garnet color. In their youth, they offer aromas of springtime in the garden, with notes of red and black fruits like raspberry, strawberry, cherry, blackcurrant, and blackberry. The nose intensifies with age, evolving to reveal aromas of peony and jasmine, jam, fruits preserved in eau-de-vie, pistachio, prunes, leather, truffle, mushroom, and cinnamon. The soil here is fairly deep and ideal for producing full-bodied and generous Pinot Noir wines. They are robust with distinction, characterful and fruity, and they open up fully after three to five years in the cellar, resulting in firm and structured wines that are chewy, with pleasant tannins.
At the table, the fabulous power of these wines and their distinguished tannins require bold dishes such as red meat, either grilled or in sauce, or roasted or glazed poultry. They are also ideal with soft and washed rind cheeses such as Époisses, l’Ami du Chambertin, and Livarot.
Bourgogne vs. Burgundy: to re-affirm their identity, the region and the producers are reverting back to the original French iteration of the name, Bourgogne.
