17 Tastevinage Majors were unveiled before an audience of wine industry professionals on Thursday 14 November at the Château du Clos de Vougeot, on the occasion of the 8th Tastevinage Majors Award Ceremony.
In the Course of the evening, 1 Crémant de Bourgogne, 8 white and 8 red Tasteviné wines received awards from members of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin. Rigorously selected from among the 957 Bourgogne wines examined this year during the 113th and 114th Tastevinage sessions, these particular favourites of the tasting-judges now have the added prestige of this distinction of excellence – a tribute to the savoir-faire of their producers and their outstanding quality.

In its search for excellence, the TASTEVINAGE singles out from the other Tasteviné approved wines the jury’s favourites, awarding them the title of MAJOR. The idea behind the MAJORS is to highlight those wines which aside from being authentically typical of their appellation and vintage, stand out by their indisputably superior quality. The MAJORS have been rigorously selected from among the 957 Burgundy wines tasted in this year’s two TASTEVINAGE sessions (the 113th session on Friday 15 March and the 114th session on Friday 6 September 2024).
Tracvin is a system designed to check the authenticity of Tasteviné products on sale to consumers. Samples of Tasteviné wines are taken at random from retail outlets in Europe and analysed in the laboratory. The results are then compared with a control wine analysed during the initial labelling. This key process is a guarantee for the consumers that they can trust the conformity and quality of the Tasteviné wine they have just purchased.

Created in 1950 by the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, the Tastevinage is a seal of approval awarded to wines authentically typical of the Greater Bourgogne Wine Region, from Chablis to the Beaujolais crus. Made up of a jury of experts from the wine industry (growers, merchants, cooperatives’ representatives, brokers, sommeliers, oenologists, chefs, buyers, distributors, wine writers and influencers), the Tastevinage consists of an extremely rigorous assessment in which each wine is subjected to a blind tasting to guarantee the impartiality of the judges. The selection process ends with the TASTEVINAGE seal of approval being awarded to those wines judged to be most typical of their appellations and vintages – a guarantee of authenticity and enjoyment for the consumer.
