Charles Aznavour to be one of the patrons of the 157th Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction

This year, the Hospices de Beaune will be supporting the following three organizations:
     •     La Fondation pour la Recherche sur Alzheimer, supported by Charles Aznavour
     •     La Fondation Tara Expéditions, represented by Agnès b and Julie Depardieu
     •     La Fédération pour la Recherche sur le Cerveau, sponsored by Marc-Olivier Fogiel

Two pièces for the Cuvée des Présidents
Exceptionally, for the 157th auction, the Pièce des Président will in fact be two pièces, the traditional Bourgogne 228-liter barrels, from the Corton Grand-Cru Clos du Roi appellation. The Hospices began supporting charities through the sale back in 1978, and the money raised from the sale of the Pièce des Présidents is shared between the selected charities each year.

A new cuvée in the Hospices de Beaune range
In 2017, Bernard Clerc from the Domaine Henry Clerc bequeathed a plot of 0.19 hectares in the celebrated Puligny-Montrachet appellation to the Hospices de Beaune. These vines, aged around 40 years, are in the Climat of Les Reuchaux, in the northerly part of the appellation, towards Meursault. Ludivine Griveau, winemaker for the Hospices de Beaune estate since 2015, will be tasked with vinifying this new appellation, bringing the number of Hospices de Beaune wines up to 50.

787 pièces for sale compared to 596 in 2016
The 2017 sale will see 787 pièces up for sale by the Hospices, 157 of white and 630 of red. These 787 pièces are divided into 50 cuvées, 33 red and 17 white, painstakingly produced by the Hospices de Beaune winery.

Other major events that are held around the same weekend include the Chapter of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin at the Clos de Vougeot on the Saturday night, and the no-less legendary Paulée de Meursault on the Monday. Together, with the “Diner aux Chandelle”, that concludes the Auction day, they form Les Trois Glorieuses, or “The Glorious Three Days” which, for more than 150 years, have celebrated the conclusion of the winegrowing year in the Bourgogne region.

In parallel to the “official” celebrations, the general public can practice their wine-tasting skills at the 145th Fête des Grands Vins de Bourgogne at the Palais des Congrès, or head off to discover the wine houses and estates that open their doors during the weekend.

During the weekend (Friday to Sunday), there are many different events dedicated to the press.
