Domaine Faiveley donates to Hospices de Beaune for its 200th anniversary

24/06/2025

Donation - in the vineyard - Dom Faiveley @Antoine Morfaux

On Friday 20 June 2025, during its bicentennial celebration held at Château du Clos de Vougeot, the Faiveley family announced they were donating a plot of Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru to the Hospices de Beaune.

Gathered in the Grand Council Room of the Château du Clos Vougeot on Friday, 20 June 2025, Eve and Erwan Faiveley, owners of the eponymous estate, formalised the donation of a plot of Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru to the Hospices Civils de Beaune, notably represented by Guillaume Koch, director of the Hospices Civils de Beaune, and Ludivine Griveau-Gemma, régisseur of the Hospices de Beaune estate.

Planted in 1974, this plot covers just over 4 ouvrées (4.28 ares) with vines yielding enough grapes for the Hospice to comfortably produce three pièces (228 l) of wine for each vintage. This cuvée will be auctioned for the first time on 17 November 2025 during the 165th Hospices de Beaune auction. It will be named ‘Clos de Vougeot, cuvée François Faiveley’ as a tribute to François Faiveley (1859–1918) and François Faiveley (1951), respectively the third and sixth generation to have managed the estate.

Erwan Faiveley adds: "As co-owner of the Château du Clos de Vougeot and founding family of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin — of which this château serves as the headquarters — we are proud and delighted to contribute a part of this exceptional heritage to the Hospices. Since we share a similar approach to quality in vineyard work, conducted using organic farming methods, we are confident the team at the Hospices de Beaune estate will continue to preserve and elevate this exceptional terroir.”

Guillaume Koch:On behalf of the Hospices Civils de Beaune, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the Faiveley family for this exceptional donation. As well as demonstrating the family’s attachment to our institution, it perpetuates the long-standing tradition of charity and generosity that have shaped the history of our hospital. Few hospitals are fortunate to receive such donations, underscoring the unique character of Beaune. Well aware of the care and attention that Domaine Faiveley pours into producing fine wines, we will naturally follow in their footsteps. This donation will generate new income which we will invest, time and again, in improving patient care and working conditions for the staff. This donation is a powerful testament to the vitality of a living heritage. One whose story continues to be written and passed through generations, driven by values of humanity and commitment. It reflects the sincere and enduring attachment between our two institutions, a bond as much a tribute to our shared history as it is a promise for the future.

Ludivine Griveau-Gemma: "It is with considerable emotion that the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune welcomes this incredibly generous donation of a plot in such a prestigious appellation. It attests to the Faiveley family’s deep attachment to our institution and will now form an eternal bond inscribed in our respective histories. We are extremely honoured by this expression of confidence placed in us by Eve and Erwan’s family. Rest assured that we will do our utmost to prove ourselves worthy of this trust and produce an exceptional Clos Vougeot to support our hospital cause. What a blessing, as régisseur, to experience such a moment: THANK YOU. Thank you for your trust, thank you to the Faiveley family for supporting our charity auction, and thank you for this deeply meaningful donation.

We have always been committed to promoting Burgundy through our wines, just as the Hospices do with their annual auction held in November under the market halls of Beaune. By making this donation, we aim to forge a lasting partnership with this magnificent institution and mark our 200th anniversary with a forward-looking act,” concludes Eve Faiveley.

About the Hospices de Beaune

The Hospices de Beaune was founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor to the Duke of Burgundy, and his wife, Guigone de Salins, to create a place of care for the sick and the destitute. Today, the Hôtel-Dieu des Hospices de Beaune is a living symbol of Burgundy’s rich heritage. Its flamboyant Gothic architecture and distinctive glazed roofs are iconic features of the region.

The Hospices Civils de Beaune continues to operate as a public health institution, encompassing four sites: Beaune, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Arnay-le-Duc and Seurre, and upholding the founders’ original mission of delivering high-quality, accessible care. With 988 beds, it serves a population of over 110,000 residents.

The Hospices de Beaune wine estate, built up through centuries of generous donations, now extends across more than 60 hectares of Bourgogne's most prestigious appellations, from Chablis to Pouilly-Fuissé. Its remarkable vine population reflects the estate’s exceptional heritage, with over 85% of its vineyards classified as Premier Cru and Grand Cru. This intricate mosaic of terroirs boasts no fewer than 86 distinct Climats, spread across more than 120 plots, giving rise to 51 cuvées, each extremely distinctive and honouring the institution’s benefactors. This collection will now be enriched by the François Faiveley cuvée, sourced from this distinguished Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru.

Each year, the renowned Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction helps support charitable causes and fund the ongoing work of the hospital institution to benefit the local community.
