Following a mild winter, the 2025 growing season got off to an early start in Bourgogne, with April’s warm weather pushing the vines into action. After an initial burst of growth, the pace eased slightly in early May.
Winter brought no major extremes, and the vines were quick to emerge from dormancy. March was a balancing act between warm spells and lingering cold, but by early April, buds had already begun to swell in the earliest-ripening areas. With temperatures well above average, budbreak progressed rapidly. On average, mid-budbreak occurred around April 8 - right in line with the 31-year norm - though there were some regional variations.
After Easter, growth surged again: within a week, vines had produced two to three new leaves. A few storms swept through without causing much harm—just some holes in the foliage in the Mâconnais and northern Bourgogne.
May began on a cooler note after a nearly summer-like stretch, giving growers a welcome breather. Vegetation is already well advanced, and grape clusters are clearly visible. Vineyard crews are hard at work to keep up with canopy management: debudding is underway, often alongside trellising, which in some parcels is happening simultaneously.

Bourgogne Neutrality 2035: The Bourgogne Wine Sector Strengthens Its Action Plan
From production to transport to distribution, the Bourgogne wine industry is acting at every stage of the chain in the chain to reach carbon neutrality.
Environmental transition is now a shared priority for everyone involved in wine - from vineyard to shelf. In this spirit, the Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB) brought together more than 100 industry partners on April 23 - including glassmakers, transporters, cooperatives, and technical organizations - to help advance its Bourgogne Neutrality 2035 action plan.
The goal is to coordinate existing efforts, pool best practices, and identify new levers for action to offer consumers wines that are produced more sustainably - without compromising on quality.
About the Bourgogne Neutrality 2035 project:
The Bourgogne wine sector aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035 by reducing emissions by 60% and offsetting the remaining 40%. A roadmap of 38 concrete actions - directly actionable by wine professionals - has been put in place to support this ambition. From bottle reuse to cutting back on air freight, these measures address every stage of the value chain, from vineyard to distribution. Parallel work is also underway on offsetting, with increased carbon storage in soils through practices such as cover cropping and vine shoot incorporation.

Feeling Bourgogne: Emotion Becomes the New Signature of Bourgogne Wines
A bold strategy to engage young British consumers.
For the first time, Bourgogne wines are launching a campaign in the UK entirely designed for a new generation of British drinkers (ages 25-40). Titled Feeling Bourgogne, the campaign breaks with tradition, focusing on emotion, spontaneity, and togetherness.
Shedding the usual clichés, the campaign encourages a fresh, everyday approach to Bourgogne wines - through moments like drinks with friends, impromptu dinners, and casual get-togethers. It highlights accessible cuvées, particularly Bourgogne and Mâcon with a geographic denomination, along with Chablis, all presented with a refreshingly genuine tone.
What is coming up? May 28 – Afterwork in London at Humble Grape, spotlighting Bourgogne and Mâcon with a geographic denomination June 18-22 – Immersive booth at the Taste of London festival This fall – A new afterwork event dedicated to Chablis wines
An inspiring campaign to watch!

In the southern part of Bourgogne, the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation spans four villages in the Mâconnais: Fuissé, Solutré-Pouilly, Vergisson, and Chaintré. Established in 1936, the appellation proudly earned a major distinction in 2021 with the classification of 22 Climats as Premier Cru - a well-deserved recognition.
Part of the vineyard stretches across the limestone slopes of the iconic rocks of Solutré and Vergisson - striking geological landmarks that define the local landscape.
Wine Profile
These white wines display a color ranging from pale gold to deep gold, often with green highlights. The aromatic profile is complex and layered: mineral notes (flint), almond and hazelnut, citrus (lemon, grapefruit, pineapple), white fruits (peach), linden and acacia blossom, as well as hints of bread crust, buttery brioche, and honey. On the palate, the diversity of terroirs comes through. Beneath a rich texture lies a precise structure, supported by naturally generous ripeness.
Food Pairings
Served between 11 and 13°C (52-55°F), Pouilly-Fuissé pairs beautifully with refined shellfish, cooked foie gras, white meats in creamy sauces, or delicately spiced exotic dishes like tagines or prawns in sweet-and-sour sauce. It also complements goat cheeses and sushi, offering both respect for texture and a vivid mineral edge.
Bourgogne vs. Burgundy: to re-affirm their identity, the region and the producers are reverting back to the original French iteration of the name, Bourgogne.
