A surprise after a complicated year in the vineyards
Very early, 2022 was under the influence of sunshine and warmth: Winter has been particularly mild and dry, despite a few episodes of frost at the very beginning of April.
The weather turned nice as soon as mid-April, which allowed the vegetative cycle to start quickly, taking 15 days ahead of the average. At the time of flowering, the 2022 vintage looked like being one of the earliest in history. The hot and dry summer then slowed down the pace of the vines and the ripening of the grapes.
Fortunately, the abundant rainfall in June and a few well-placed showers in mid-August gave the plants what they needed to transform the grape pulp into a generous juice.
Finally, this vintage is not the earliest: The harvest started a little after mid-August for the first Crémant de Bourgogne, and ended during the third week of September in the Côte de Nuits, the Hautes Côtes and the Chablisien.
While the wines are at the beginning of their maturation, winegrowers and merchants are delighted: They have both quality and quantity in their cellars! Beautiful balance, perfect sanitary condition, beautiful color extraction... the wines of 2022 promise great tastings!
