In the Sâone et Loire, one of the four départements that makes up the Bourgogne region, the vineyards of the Mâconnais mark the southern end of the Bourgogne wine region. The area covers a strip of 35km between Sennecey-le- Grand and Saint-Vérand. It is around 10km wide, and contained between the valleys of the Grosne to the west and the Saône to the east.
