Domaine Magnien Michel

Us

A family affair!

The Domaine Michel Magnien in Morey-Saint-Denis is now managed by Frédéric Magnien, son of Michel Magnien.

Born in 1946, Michel Magnien represents the 4th generation of Magnien family winegrowers.

At a very young age, he worked on the 4 hectares of vineyards belonging to his father, Bernard Magnien (3rd generation). From 1967 to 1991, Michel Magnien and his wife, Dominique, purchased many plots of vines that they passionately cultivated, nursed, harvested, and made into wine:

1967: Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru “Les Sentiers”

1971: obtained uncultivated plots that they replanted themselves in Gevrey-Chambertin “Les Evocelles” and Chambolle-Musigny “Les Fremières” appellations.

1972: obtained an uncultivated plot that they replanted themselves with Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru “Les Chaffots”.

1973: obtained plots in Clos Saint Denis, Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru and Bourgogne Grande Ordinaire.

1975: obtained Clos de la Roche Grand Cru.

1980: obtained plots with the appellations: Gevrey-Chambertin and Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru “Les Cazetiers”.

1983: obtained Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru “Les Millandes”

1991: obtained “La Corvée de l’Eglise” Bourgognes

1992: obtained Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru “Les Goulots”

2008: purchased Marsannay Plantelle, Marsannay Mogottes (monopoly) and Côtes de Nuits.

PRESENTATION

In 1988, Michel Magnien took over his father’s vineyard as a tenant farmer and continued to deliver the Bernard Magnien harvest to the Morey-Saint-Denis cooperative. In 1993, Frédéric Magnien joined the family business and urged his father that they start bottling their wines themselves.

The Domaine Michel Magnien et Fils was created in 1998 with a label representing the first three letters of first names of the estate’s three associates: Dominique, Michel and Frédéric. It was later changed in 2007.

Today, 19 hectares of Grand Cru, Premier Cru, Villages and Regional appellation vines are grown on the Domaine Michel Magnien et Fils estate.

The quality of Michel Magnien wines reflects the detailed attention given to the vines.
