Let’s discover the Viré-Clessé AOC

Enjoy your trip at the heart of the Mâconnais to discover this Village appellation.

Viré-Clessé, terroir d'audace en Bourgogne du Sud

A veritable gem to discover, the Viré-Clessé appellation was recognised in 1998 and named in 1999. Produced in the villages of Viré, Laizé, Monbellet, and Clessé in the Mâconnais, it highlights the Chardonnay by producing exclusively white wines made from this grape variety.

It represents around 1.5% of the Bourgogne vineyards (437 hectares) and it produces 28,000 hectoliters (more than 3.7 million bottles). This AOC offers a unique feature in the whole Bourgogne: Viré-Clessé levroutés, white wines containing residual sugar. These wines have the colour of the young hare (levraut in French), that gives them their name. Unique, they have been recognised since 2002 by the INAO to take part of the Viré-Clessé AOC
