Organised by the Office du Chablis in partnership with the Bourgogne Wine Board, the 40th Chablis Wine Competition took place in mid-January under the presidency of Julia Scavo, a French sommelier recognised on the international scene.
A total of 65 tasters evaluated 233 wines: the 2024 vintage for the Petit Chablis, Chablis, and Chablis Premier Cru appellations, but the 2023 vintage for the Chablis Grand Cru AOC.
Following two selection phases, 23 wines were awarded medals. A selective outcome marked this year by the low 2024 harvest volumes.
A distinctive feature of the competition is that professionals entering a wine may not serve on the jury. Journalists, sommeliers, restaurateurs, oenologists and knowledgeable amateurs therefore provide an independent and cross-disciplinary perspective on the wines tasted, before a final selection is made by a Super Jury responsible for awarding the medals.
