Vintage 2022, one year on, expectations confirmed!
Following long months of maturation, the long-awaited 2022 vintage, so eagerly anticipated after the small volumes of 2021, is finally making its appearance on the world stage. It will be showcased at the Bourgogne Week in London next January.
The 2022 vintage is living up to all our expectations. It's a very fine vintage, with wines that are seductive in their youth, but that should also be capable of ageing well.
The 2022 vintage was nevertheless the result of an intense meteorological year, with frost, heatwaves and drought. The volumes, saved by a slightly later bud break which protected the buds from frost, could have been impacted by the four heatwave episodes in the summer and the general lack of water. Yet the vines were able to draw on their own resources as well as those of the terroir, to offer Bourgogne generous yields (almost 1.75 million hl). This connection between the plant and its environment has also contributed to a fine balance in the wines which, despite the very hot conditions that year, display considerable subtlety, both on the nose and on the palate.
Discover the characteristics of the 2022 vintage in our press release. It covers both reds and whites for each of the regions.
This year, the Saint-Vincent Tournante will take place in Morey-Saint-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny on January 27 and 28. An opportunity to discover or rediscover the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation—discreet but enticing!
Morey-Saint-Denis is one of the 9 Village appellations in the Côte de Nuits. It is often said that the wines of Morey-Saint-Denis are the perfect link between the wines of its two famous neighbours, Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin.
From the former they borrow finesse and elegance, stoutness and fleshiness from the latter.
Almost all Morey-Saint-Denis vineyards are planted with Pinot Noir. However, there are a few parcels of Chardonnay or Pinot Blanc that produce a rare and interesting white wine.
In red, Morey-Saint-Denis displays a deep color and structured body. Its aromas elegantly balance black fruit (blackcurrant, blueberry) and red stone fruit (cherry)... and with age, start to evoke aspects leather, moss and game!
Enjoy with food!
Powerful and full-bodied on the palate, Morey-Saint-Denis reds are the perfect accompaniment to strong flavored meats. Game meats, whether braised or roasted, harmonize perfectly with the fleshy texture of Morey-Saint-Denis and its robust tannins. These same tannins will bring out the full richness of a beautiful ribeye or a thick sirloin steak. Cheeses with washed rinds are another perfect partner.
In this video, winegrower Laurent Lignier of Domaine Hubert Lignier talks about the charisma of the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation.
Wine educator Jean-Pierre Renard describes the appellation's geological and geographical characteristics in this video.
