Results of the 113th edition of the Tastevinage

25/03/2024

Do you know that the Tastevinage has been a quality seal since 1950?

The 113th edition of the Tastevinage took place on Friday, March 15, in the Grand Cellier of the Château du Clos de Vougeot. The Guest of Honour at this spring session was Xavier Thuizat, the renowned French sommelier.

For this event, some 170 tasting-judges, all wine-industry experts, were enlisted in order to evaluate the wines submitted, awarding the Tastevinage seal only to those most representative of their appellation and vintage.

THE RESULTS OF THIS YEAR’S SPRING SESSION

527 wines were competing at this session. All the wines were grown, vinified and bottled in the greater Bourgogne wine region, extending from Chablis down to the Beaujolais crus.

Of the wines submitted, 170 received the Tastevinage seal: a pass rate of 32%.

The laureates were divided into the following categories:

  • 58 Régionale appellations
  • 64 Village appellations
  • 48 Village Premier Cru or Grand Cru appellations

What is the Tastevinage?

Created in 1950 by the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, the Tastevinage seal of approval singles out the wines most authentically representative of the great Bourgogne winegrowing region, from Chablis to the Beaujolais crus.
Made up of a jury of experts from the wine industry– growers, merchants, co-op representatives, brokers, sommeliers, oenologists, restauranteurs, buyers, retailers, journalists and influencers– the Tastevinage consists of a rigorous examination where each wine undergoes a ‘blind’ tasting in order to ensure the judge’s impartiality.
At the end of the selection process, the Tastevinage seal is awarded only to those wines that most accurately define the character of their appellation and vintage, thus providing the consumer with a guarantee of authenticity and pleasure.
