On 21 April, don’t miss your Rendezvous with Bourgogne Wines!
The next edition of the interactive “Rendez-vous avec les vins de Bourgogne” on 21 April will be dedicated to Morey-Saint-Denis.
Perhaps less well-known than its more illustrious neighbors, like Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, the village of Morey-Saint-Denis is also home to some of the most prestigious Grand Crus in Bourgogne. But the vines in the Morey-Saint-Denis Village appellation also produce some extremely high-quality wines that are more affordable and deserve greater attention.
The show lasts for one hour. The first 20 minutes are dedicated to reports and interviews with winegrowers. The second part to a guided tasting of several wines that participants at sessions hosted around the world can taste simultaneously with our expert educator from the École des Vins de Bourgogne. At the end of the show, the host answers questions submitted by participants.
The show is broadcast in 10 countries, in French at 4pm and in English at 9am, 11am, 6pm, and 10pm. All times are CET. Contact your local Official Bourgogne Wines Educator to find out more.
The appellation Blagny will be one of the stars of the Saint-Vincent Tournante 2022. Let’s take a closer look at one of the smallest appellations in Bourgogne.
Tucked in between the vines of Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault, the hamlet of Blagny is located at one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the Côte de Beaune. It produces the appellations Blagny and Blagny Premier Cru in red, and the appellations Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault in white, depending on the plot location.
A red island in a sea of whites
With 4.46 hectares, Blagny is one of the smallest AOCs in Bourgogne, but it earned its classification quite early on in 1937.
Blagny wines are deep in color, ranging from black cherry to ruby with hints of violet. The nose is fruity and encapsulates the entire Bourgogne red wine aromatic scale of red berries like strawberry and redcurrant to darker blackberry and blackcurrant. When mature, they offer notes of leather, pepper, cacao, and licorice to accompany tawny touches. The wines of this appellation usually require a few years of ageing.
Blagny wines are perfect for serving with roasts or spicy and more exotic foods. Try them with roast beef, couscous with mixed meats or stewed poultry dishes. When selecting your cheeseboard, serve it with powerful cheeses such as Ami du Chambertin or farmhouse Munster.
Blagny is a little-known gem that is crying out to be discovered. It’s one of the three appellations of the Saint-Vincent Tournante 2021, which is postponed to January 2022, along with Puligny-Montrachet and Bourgogne Côte d’Or. Another reason not to miss the celebrations – if one were needed!
Bourgogne wines are hoping for a return to growth in 2021
After a year that was buffeted by the Covid-19 pandemic, Bourgogne wines are now benefiting from an overall healthy economic situation. This is nonetheless being put to the test with each new set of measures, and 2021 still holds a great deal of uncertainty. However, there are still many reasons to remain positive:
* Transactions during the first six months of the 2020-2021 campaign were up, driven by the abundant 2020 harvest: Up 29% compared to transactions for the 2019 vintage, and up 19% on the six-month average for the last five campaigns.
* The volume of Bourgogne wine exported maintained its growth in 2020, exceeding the equivalent of 90 million 75cl bottles (up 0.8% on 2019). Export revenue remained above one billion euros, despite a slight drop of 0.8% on 2019. The outlook for 2021 will depend largely on the measures imposed to halt the spread of Covid-19, along with administrative barriers, especially in the USA. The announcement on 5 March of the suspension of levies for four months pending the resumption of negotiations between the European Union and the Biden administration holds out the prospect of a significant upturn in terms of Bourgogne wine exports.
* In France, Bourgogne wines have grown market share in local stores, supermarkets, and click-and-collect. In parallel, the Bourgogne region dominated the offer of white wines available to consumers in e-commerce, which has become a distribution channel with its own trends. A proportion of the sales usually made in restaurants seems to have shifted to specialist wine stores, but the reopening of restaurants is seen as key to ensure a full recovery of the French market.
* Wine stock on estates has been buoyed by the good 2020 harvest, particularly for whites, and is slightly higher than the average over the past five campaigns.
This masterclass hosted by Ivy Ng explains all you need to know about Bourgogne and Mâcon wines with a geographical denomination and is aimed at market influencers in Hong Kong.
The Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB) invites you to enjoy this online masterclass and tasting, specially designed for Hong Kong’s market influencers which was attended by Bourgogne wines spokesperson Anne Moreau. It took place in October 2020.
The Bourgogne region enjoys a global reputation for its wines. Its unique terroir and expertise are revealed through its appellations, some of which have already achieved iconic status, while others are waiting to be discovered.
This masterclass, hosted by Official Bourgogne Wines Educator Ivy Ng, is dedicated to the lesser-known and more affordable appellations of Bourgogne and Mâcon plus a geographical denomination.
“Escape to Bourgogne” is a new kind of training developed by the Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB). The concept is a simple one: Wine industry professionals, influencers, and journalists work in teams to learn and compete in a fun way, with different themes involving the region, its history and the appellations. Also a great occasion to taste some unexpected wines.
The next two editions will take place on:
- 11 May in Hong Kong
- 25 May in the United Kingdom
The event involves presentations, quizzes, and tastings of certain appellations as yet little-known on the market like Régionale appellations and some high quality Village appellations. The selection will be completed by some Chablis wines as well. There will also be Chablis wines on offer for sampling.
An expert in Bourgogne wines and a representative of the region will guide the teams and help them win prizes. This is a great opportunity to learn whilst having fun and meeting the experts.
Participants are also invited to share their experiences on social media through Twitter and Instagram with the #EscapeToBourgogne and #PureChablis hashtags.
By invitation only. Contact us for more information.
