The 2016 vintage in the Bourgogne winegrowing region: A wonderful surprise

The weather events of the spring slashed yields, leaving the Bourgogne winegrowing sector with one of the lowest harvests of the past 20 years – 1.25 million hectoliters compared to 1.518 in 2015.

Fortunately, however, the climate did not stop producers from creating wines that will fully meet the expectations of Bourgogne fans. Indeed, after a particularly wet and cold spring, the sun and heat were there, right from the start of summer. This sudden change allowed the vines to regain their strength. They caught up the time lost at the start of the growth cycle and went on to produce a quality vintage.

The harvest fruit was perfectly healthy, ripe, and appetizing. The first tastings, held during the weekend of the Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction weekend, confirmed the trend – the 2016 vintage is one you can count on!
