Marie Wodecki, a rising star in French sommellerie and named Best Young Sommelier of France in 2023, presided over the 39th Chablis Wine Competition held on January 18, 2025. The event was organized by the Chablis Office and the Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB).
Three former presidents, all loyal to the competition, were also present this year: Gérard MARGEON, “Mr. Wine” of the Alain Ducasse group for 30 years, Toshio MATSUURA, Japanese journalist and Jean-Luc JAMROZIK, President of the Paris Sommelier Association.
The 72 jury members evaluated the 2023 vintage for the Petit Chablis, Chablis, and Chablis Premier Cru appellations, and the 2022 vintage for the Chablis Grand Cru AOC. They awarded 19 medals out of the 292 wines presented.
At just 26 years old, Marie Wodecki has established herself as a rising star on the French sommelier scene. After completing a science-focused baccalauréat, she pursued a Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts and Entrepreneurship at FERRANDI Paris. She then honed her skills in Michelinstarred establishments such as JY'S in Colmar and Yoann Conte's La Maison Bleue in Veyrier-du-Lac.
In 2019, she developed a passion for wine and pursued a specialized Sommellerie qualification in Savoie, followed by a Professional Certificate in Chamalières, in the Puy de Dôme region. She trained under renowned experts such as Philippe Faure-Brac, World's Best Sommelier 1992, and Xavier Thuizat, France's Best Sommelier 2022.
Her talent has been recognized with several distinctions, including Best Student Sommelier of France 2021 and Best Young Sommelier of France 2023. In 2024, she reached the semi-finals of the Best Sommelier of France competition.
After serving as Head Sommelier at the Auberge de Montmin, she is now preparing to take on a new challenge at the restaurant SABA in Annecy, France.
