The 157th Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction: new Record!

New world auction record has been set for Batard-Montrachet. The proceeds of « La pièce des Présidents » - sold for €420,000 / £373,800 / 5,600, which is the second highest price ever achieved - will benefit La Fondation Tara Expéditions, La Fédération pour la recherche sur le cerveau (brain research) and La Fondation pour la Recherche sur Alzheimer. The Domaine des Hospices de Beaune, with over 60 hectares, offered 787 barrels, of which 630 red and 157 white wine and 15 barrels of eaux de vie. The animated auction room was matched by strong online and phone bidding, welcoming bids from 18 countries from 4 continents.

THE PRESIDENT’S BARREL €420,000 / £373,800 / 5,600
Since 1978, the Hospices de Beaune donates one or more barrels, known as La Pièce des Présidents, to benefit carefully selected charitable purposes. Since 1945 an Honorary President has presided over each “Pièce des Présidents”.

This year, these were: Agnès b and Julie Depardieu for The Foundation Tara Expéditions, Marc-Olivier Fogiel, for The Federation for Brain Research and Charles Aznavour for The Foundation for Alzheimer research.
Their presence motivated the bidders’ enthusiasm, and La Pièce du Président contained two
barrels of Corton Grand Crus -Clos-du-Roi - Cuvée des Présidents was sold for €420,000 / £373,800 / 5,600, the second highest price ever bought by La Maison Albert Bichot and an Chinese collector.
