World heritage list: ICOMOS recognizes the Outstanding Universal Value of the Climats de Bourgogne

The ICOMOS report confirms the Outstanding Universal Value of the Climats of the Bourgogne wine-growing region, as well as the complete outline of the area concerned (from Dijon to Les Maranges), the conditions of integrity and authenticity, and the quality of the management plan.
ICOMOS did nonetheless include a notice of reference of adjudication. This consultative opinion is based on two points for which the Association des Climats and, above all, France, has already made major undertakings in these areas and furnished several elements by way of response:
- Extending the regulatory protection to the whole area submitted for listing (central zone)
- Finalizing the landscape plan […] for the sector of the quarries located in the buffer zone

The ICOMOS report is purely consultative, and does not amount to a decision. This will be provided by the 21 Ambassadors of the member states, who will vote in early July during the 39th session of the World Heritage Committee, which takes place in Bonn from 28 June to 8 July 2015.

Buoyed by this very positive report, and having talked with different members of the World Heritage Committee, France is maintaining its objective of obtaining UNESCO World Heritage listing for the Climats of the Bourgogne wine-growing region this year.
