Domaine Xavier Yverneau takes over the family vineyards in Vermenton

Two years after setting up his Domaine in Vézelay and Irancy, Xavier Yverneau decided to take over the family AOC Burgundy vineyard in the commune of Vermenton.

Located in the Yonne region of northern Bourgogne, Vermenton has been a wine-producing village since the Middle Ages, thanks to the monks of the Cistercian abbey of Reigny. Wines from Vermenton were transported to Paris via the Cure, a tributary of the Yonne. But phylloxera almost completely destroyed the village's viticultural vocation in the XIXᵉ century.

It wasn't until the end of the XXᵉ century that pioneers such as Cécile and Mathieu Yverneau replanted the hillsides and obtained the Bourgogne AOC. Multi-crop farmers, they were cooperators and sold their grapes to the Bailly-Lapierre winery.

Today, their son Xavier Yverneau is continuing the renaissance of the Vermentonnais vineyards. After taking over the Vézelay and Irancy vineyards in 2022, he decided to develop the family vines with the same vision as his own estate. This translates into a triple commitment to his customers (specified on each back label): no weedkillers, minimal but necessary sulfiting, and the use of indigenous yeasts.

So, since November 2023, Xavier has been working to fully express the identity of Vermenton's subsoil. Dating back some 160 million years, recognizable by its ammonite fossils, the Oxfordian, on which the commune of Vermenton is based, also passes through Vézelay and extends as far as the Côte-d'Or. It is quite different from the neighboring vineyards of Auxerrois and Chablisien, which are based on the Kimmeridgian.

In this month of July 2025, the Domaine team and Xavier are honored to present the first bottles from the family vineyard. Two new AOC Bourgogne cuvées are available: a Pinot-Noir named "La renaissance", a light, gourmet, summery red, and a plot-based Aligoté "Le Corbier à la Rose"
