Bourgogne wines, long recognized for their strong reputation and quality image in global markets, are now seeing a slowdown in economic momentum. This trend reflects both the uncertainty of the international economic climate and the ongoing structural decline in wine consumption.
The 2025–2026 campaign began with a lower stock than the previous one. However, opening stocks (as of August 2025) remain 7% higher than the five-year average. With the arrival of a smaller 2025 harvest, total available supply should be better aligned with current market conditions.
Following two particularly dynamic campaigns (22–23 and 23–24), the 2024–2025 season was marked by both a reduced 2024 vintage (just over 1.2 million hectoliters) and a deteriorating global economic context. [...]
Early data from the 2025–2026 campaign point to a further contraction: -8.9% in volume for the first two months compared to the same period of the previous campaign. This evolution comes as no surprise given the continuing deterioration of the global economic context and slightly lower harvest volumes. [...]
The year 2025 began strongly for Bourgogne wines, with the first quarter setting a fifteen‑year record of 22 million bottles exported. However, the most recent customs data show a less favorable trend: for the three‑month period from June to August 2025, Bourgogne wines recorded a slight decline in volume (-0.4%) and a more pronounced drop in value (-6.2%) compared with the same months in 2024. For the past decade, Bourgogne’s key export destinations have formed a consistent “Top Five Club”: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and Belgium. Together, these countries absorb nearly 62% of Bourgogne’s export volumes and about 60% of export revenue (2015–2024 average).
Over the first eight months of 2025, while the top three markets maintained their positions, the rankings shifted: Sweden, which entered the group in early 2024, has now climbed to fourth place, while Japan drops out and Belgium makes a strong comeback. [...]

(22.1% of volume and 22.4% of value in 2024), is also the world’s largest wine consumer, accounting for 16% of global consumption (OIV 2024). [...]
