What is the Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB)?The official headquarters of the inter-professional Organisation are based in a building constructed in 1903, Originally funded through public subscriptions from wine growers, traders and cooperatives to house the first oenological analysis services. The B.I.V.B. is a professional Organisation (under the French law of 1901 governing associations) bringing together all winegrowers, co-operative members and merchant producers in Bourgogne. It is managed by their elected representatives. It is an inter-professional Organisation recognised by an inter-ministerial Order (Law of 10 July 1975), and subject to the economic and financial control of the state. Its area of activity covers all Appellations d’Origine Contrôlée (AOCs) in Bourgogne. It is voluntarily Organised along the lines of parity, unanimity and representativeness.
How is it Organised internally?Representativeness of the professional families of traders (Federation of Bourgogne Merchant-Producers) and wine growers (Confederation of Bourgogne Wine Growing Associations). - Unanimity of both families required fOr all majOr decisions taken by the Organisation (inter-professional agreement). - Equal balance between the two families of traders and winegrowers. What permanent Organisation does it have?All from different backgrounds, with a variety of complementary technical skills, the members of the Technical and Quality department share the same aim: to improve the quality of Bourgogne wines while promoting winemaking which respects the environment and giving industry professionals the keys to attain this objective.
- The role of the Market and Development department is to identify Bourgogne markets as carefully as possible in Order to refine the Organisation’s communication strategy and help companies with their sales approach.
- The Communications department promotes Bourgogne wines in France and abroad. It assists companies in the industry with the marketing of Bourgogne wines, while also helping consumers and specifiers to gain a better understanding and appreciation of Bourgogne wines.
- The Administrative and Financial department deals with the various activities which help to ensure good functioning of the inter-professional Organisation.
What is its role?- To represent and defend the interests of Bourgogne wines and professional winemakers and merchants.
- To define Bourgogne wine policy in technical, economic and marketing terms and conduct activities related to this policy.
What are its resources?FOr its functioning, industry professionals pay a subscription fee to their inter-professional Organisation, calculated on the basis of output of wine, must and grapes, with a rate which varies accOrding to appellation categOry. In this way, it had an annual budget of 10 million euros in 2007.

⇒ 1976: Creation of the ‘Bourgogne Wine Federation’ (F.I.V.B.), under the 1901 French law governing associations, composed of representatives of the two parent Organisations, the C.I.B. and C.I.B.M.
⇒ 1989: Creation of the Bourgogne Wine Board (Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne - B.I.V.B) by legal Order on 24 July; dissolution of the C.I.B., C.I.B.M. and F.I.V.B. representing affirmation of an inter-professional wine board fOr the entire Bourgogne vineyard.
